J&J Design is an esteemed small business in Queensland, offering a wide selection of luxurious bathtubs and sinks for the home. Boasting cutting-edge, minimalistic designs to complement today’s modern architecture and interior design, their products are sure to enhance any living space.

J&J Design has reached impressive sales growth and is now looking for a professional, online shop that provides accessible, easy-to-understand product descriptions in an aesthetic, modern, user-friendly design that suits the brand’s identity.

Develop an aesthetically minimal, elegant and modernised design to suit the contemporary consumer needs of someone seeking and exploring products for a bathroom. It is vital that this shopping site’s design is sufficiently interactive to accommodate convenient navigation from a mobile device.

The challenge

J&J Design, a small Melbourne-based business, established itself with the ambition to provide modern and elegant baths and basins. With the growth of the business and the introduction of new clientele, the owners turned to their Facebook page as a primary sale point which subsequently led to an increase in sales and the need for an online shop. The team set out with the goal to create a modern and competitive website tailored to their new brand and better suited to attract new customers. Their current Facebook page had limited capabilities and lacked a full online store experience.

J&J Design has outlined its requirement for a website which reinforces its brand identity, is user-friendly and abides by SEO principles – to better position itself amongst established Australian brands.

Personas (initial documentation)

Initial Artefacts

Wireframing

I employed wireframing to analyze the product’s design and refine the features. To begin, I transcribed my thoughts rapidly with pen and paper and went on to generate low-fidelity wireframes through platforms like Flowmapp and Figma.

Designing

I ensured adherence to UX design principles and the brand’s style by creating the wireframes according to the initial artefacts. To uphold the unified colour scheme and aesthetic, a style guide was developed to be followed during the design implementation.

It is imperative to keep in mind that consistency in web design is not possible without a Brand Manual. All web designs must follow the Manual to ensure offering more than just a product; there should be a positive impact on business efficiency and profitability.

Final product

J&J Design found the finalized product of the website extremely favorable due to its content, design and success. At the start it had to be determined whether customers wanted to purchase the product or just obtain a quote and any relevant client data. As a result, the website features a form for obtaining a quote and the payment gateway was excluded from view. The website was made compatible for both mobile and tablet viewing, maintaining consistency. Furthermore, in web design having Brand Manuals is essential in making sure that a product not only satisfies customers, but also increases business efficiency and profitability.
